History

Asbury Park Jiu Jitsu started as a result of martial arts counter culture.

2014 - The story begins

Asbury Park Jiu Jitsu started in KRod's basement. After training at other gyms,  being tired of the politics, we would train Friday nights in the basement. KRod, a former pro fighter and early jiu jitsu practitioner, along with his student, training partner, and coach Ian Clark decided they were tired of the martial arts scene. With love and passion for the martial arts lifestyle and the recognition for the value of cross training with different individuals provides, they began an open door, no politics approach to martial arts academies that accentuates personal development and living a clean, balanced, driven life.

2016 - History in the making

From the basement, we made the jump to our first location on Cookman Ave in Asbury Park in December 2016.

2017 - Champions

We believe in a sense of unity within the community that martial arts can provide. We are so lucky to have strayed away from traditional "train within your lineage culture" and it has allowed us to train and learn with people from all over the world. Everywhere we go, to Hawaii, Tahiti, Europe, South and Central America, we have brothers and sisters from the martial arts world that we have trained with.

In September 2017 we moved from Cookman Ave to our current spot in Neptune.

2021 - EXPANDING

We doubled the size of the warehouse to 5000 square feet.

2023 - CREATING A LEGACY

With over 200 members at our gym, our community starts locally but reaches globally. Martial arts lends a sense of enrichment to practitioners lives. We look forward to giving and receiving within our vastly growing community.
